Maryland Day 1 - Fine Food, Fairy-Tale Forests, and a Famous City

Today started with coffee from the Baltimore Coffee & Tea Company in Odenton. While it wasn't actually in Baltimore, I thought it was pretty darn good.

From there I met with Scott and some of his work friends in Columbia to celebrate Columbus Day (well more to celebrate them not having to work than anything to do with Columbus because he was awful) by going to an Indian Buffet at a place called Chutney (different than the chain place). It was really good, and because it was a buffet everybody ate way too much but we were all pretty happy with it. If your stomach doesn't feel disgusting after a buffet you're actually losing money.

After lunch, I went to Clark's Elioak Farm, a cool little farm that bought a ton of the decorations from a children's fairy-tale themed amusement park that closed down. The fairy tale pieces are all around the farm, but most of them are scattered around in a tree maze for guests to explore and get lost in. There's also a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, a general store, and tractor rides. It's definitely more geared toward younger kids, but it's weird and inexpensive enough that I think anyone could enjoy it.

After the fairy tale farm and forest, I got another cup of coffee at Mad City coffee. I mainly went so I could make a dumb Kendrick Lamar pun-based snap chat, but I was also pleasantly surprised by the coffee and the atmosphere.

For dinner, Scott and I went down to Annapolis. It's an absolutely beautiful city, full of old brick buildings, Navy people working out, and hip shops and restaurants. It was a great place to walk around.

We got dinner at a place called the Iron Rooster, which is known for having homemade pop-tarts and breakfast all day. It may be the best breakfast I've ever had even if it was for dinner. Scott and I split a brown sugar pop tart because it was way too big to eat with a full meal afterwards. It was sweet and crumbly and fantastic. For the main course I ordered a crab hash. Two eggs over hard, lump crab meat, asparagus, peppers, and bacon. Magnificent. (Yes, somehow I a not sick of crab yet.) It all just went to together perfectly.

We ended the night by having a couple drinks at the Ram's Head Tavern. It was a fun little bar, and all the people were friendly and quick to start up a conversation. I had a barrel aged stout from Fordham brewing which I liked, but honestly I was much more excited about the non-alcoholic Root Beer also from Fordham brewing that had been brewed with local honey. It was like any of the best root beers you'd ever had but then sweeter. Not a bad first full day in Maryland at all.
